Covid-19 update #03

Dear SLSS members,

The Multi-Ministry Taskforce has implemented an elevated set of safe distancing measures, as a circuit breaker to pre-empt the trend of increasing local transmission of COVID-19. The aim is to reduce much more significantly movements and interactions in public and private places.

These heightened safe distancing measures will be in place for four weeks (i.e. two incubation cycles) from 7 April 2020 until 4 May 2020 (inclusive). Entities that are able to comply immediately are strongly encouraged to do so. Current safe distancing measures on capacity limits and physical separation remain in force and must be strictly complied with, especially over the weekend.

The SLSS Business Continuity Management (BCM) Team would like to inform all members and their students. With effect from 06 April 2359hrs;


On Examinations and Classes

  1. All SLSS examinations and bookings are to be suspended till 4th May 2020.
  2. All lifesaving classes with participant will be suspended till 4th May 2020.
    1. No examinations will be allowed
    1. No classes should be conducted
  3. The above measures is subjected to further guidelines from SportSG and/or Ministry.

On CPR and SNR booking from 15th Feb 2020

  1. Due to the close contact nature of our CPR and SNR examinations,
    1. All CPR and SNR examinations will be suspended till 4thth May 2020.
    1. Upon approval from SportSG to carry out the activities, SLSS will put its best effort to clear the back log of bookings.
    1. Priority will be given to affected students when test schedule reopens.
    1. The EXCO will be inviting examiners of grade 2 and above to assist SLSS in this trying time to examine the students in a heighten level of hygiene
    1. Alternatively, should you seek a refund for your examinations, we will be releasing more information to facilitate the arrangement.

Closure of office for administrative matters

As SLSS services is considered a non-essential service, we will be following the Multi-Ministry Taskforce guidelines in the closure of office.

We will update the public on the re-opening of office and relevant service once the covid-19 measures have been lifted.

Dear Members of SLSS,

The Ministry of Health (“MOH”) issued an advisory entitled “Additional Precautionary Measures to Prevent Further Importation and Spread of COVID-19 Cases” on 13 March 2020 and additional Safe Distancing Measures to Prevent Further Spread of COVID-19 Cases dated 20 March 2020. In view of the evolving COVID-19 situation, Sport Singapore (SportSG) further provided an advisory on 26th March, to the sporting fraternity providing operational guidance on physical distancing measures.
The SLSS Business Continuity Management Team would like to update our members on our measures to be taken in support of social distancing during this period. With effect from 27th March 2359hrs.


On Examinations and Classes

  1. All SLSS examinations and bookings are to be suspended till 30th April.
  2. For examinations affected by this, an announcement will be made by SLSS to members for the re-scheduling of booking subjected to terms and condition or alternatively, full refund on the examination fees paid.
  3. Members affected will be receiving an email directly to facilitate communicating with parents on the SLSS position.
  4. For lifesaving classes with participant (18 years and below) will be suspended till 30th April.
    • No classes to be conducted
    • No examinations allowed
  5. For lifesaving classes with participant (19 years and above), the classes may continue subject to:
    • Capacity must be limited by the norm of one person per 16 sqm of activity space.
    • Class size must be kept to a maximum of 10 people including instructors with minimum 1m spacing between them.
    ONLY non-contact activities allowed.
    • Booking of examination is open after 7th April
    • Examination may resume after 30th April
  6. Do adhere to any further SportsSG guidelines at their facilities.


On visiting our SLSS premise

  1. We have implemented a queue system at our premise. Please follow the floor markers to maintain social distancing.
  2. We will require you to fill in an online form for contact tracing when you visit our office.


On Supplementary Budget 2020

The Exco will be looking at the Self-Employed Person Income Relief Scheme (SIRS) rolled out by the government for Free-lancers and Self-employed. We will provide a guide to assist members on the application.

We will keep a constant review of the situation as it evolves acknowledging that any decision may potentially affect livelihood of our members.

  3. Members affected will be receiving an email directly to facilitate communicating with parents on the SLSS position.
  4. For all lifesaving classes, we strongly urge our members to practice reducing the class size to 10 including the trainers and to limit practices to non-contact activities.
  5. Do adhere to any further SportsSG guidelines at their facilities.
